Objective:

To develop the student's ability to efficiently organize and manage materials/equipment so they are readily available and adequate for insuring crew coordination and briefing of passengers both prior to and during flight.

Elements:

  1. Arriving at the aircraft, verify that all equipment and materials needed for the flight are accounted for.
  2. Verify airworthiness inspections, MEL and IFR requirements (if applicable) are current.
  3. Organize and carefully secure all items, making sure they are readily available, in flight.
  4. Brief all occupants on seat adjustment, seat belt and shoulder harness use, aircraft exits, emergency equipment, and air vents.
  5. Insure that all occupants are properly seated and doors closed properly.
  6. Carefully adjust your seat and belts so as to allow easy access to all controls and equipment.
  7. If appropriate determine who will be PIC and what, if any. duties you expect the pilot not flying or the passengers to perform.
  8. During the flight, remain well organized and alert to the needs of the passengers. SAFETY - FIRST, Passenger Comfort - Second

Common Errors:

  1. Failure to use or the improper use of checklist.
  2. Hazards which may result from distractions of interrupting the instruments.
  3. Inability to recognize discrepancies.
  4. Failure to place and secure essential materials and equipment for easy access during flight.
  5. Failure to maintain accurate records essential to the progress of the flight.
  6. Improper adjustment of equipment and controls.

Notes:

Make sure all tiedowns, chocks, and marker cones are cleared.
Preflight inspection, get used to it, you're going to do it every time.
